Transitional programs, like Foundations Asheville, help young adults who have felt socially isolated and purposeless find direction by encouraging them to integrate into the local community. Community involvement is one of the cornerstones of our program, as it helps young adults form connections, learn life skills, and explore their passions with the support of mentors and peers going through similar experiences. Our program is all about applying skills learned through therapy, community living, and experiential activities to personal goals that help them thrive as adults.
Our Location
While other programs may have private campuses and shuttle young adults from activity to activity, our program has three separate houses near downtown Asheville. Rather than being isolated from people outside the program, students are encouraged to get to know neighbors, take classes, work or volunteer, and attend events in the community. As a transitional program, there is less supervision than traditional residential treatment centers. Asheville is located in the mountains of North Carolina with a vibrant art scene, lots of outdoor activities, and local music.
Career Opportunities:
One of the struggles many of the young adults we work with is deciding what direction they want to take in life. They’ve had negative experiences in school, with learning differences, motivation, and socializing. They feel underprepared to hold a steady job aligned with their interests and managing conflict with coworkers. Our mentors help with job applications, job skills, and connecting them with resources and opportunities in the community. Community service is encouraged to help explore opportunities and to connect with organizations making a difference. Students also have the option to prepare for their GED, take classes online, or attend the local community college to pursue their academic goals.
Recreation Opportunities:
Asheville has no shortage of healthy activities to do for fun. Many of our students spend a lot of time playing video games, online, or occasionally using substances with friends, but don’t feel fulfilled with their hobbies. Students are encouraged to explore their creative sides through art and music. We place an emphasis on exercise and nutrition to help young adults lead healthier lifestyles.
Some of the activities young adults engage in include rock climbing, hiking, biking, kayaking and more in the local area. These activities help them build confidence and a sense of adventure that leads to enthusiasm about life.
